RMCC Limitations
The Rice’s Mills Community Center, a former 1-room schoolhouse located at 2352 Vt. Rt. 132, Thetford Center, VT, is a great space for parties, potlucks, workshops and other activities. But there are several limitations which may make it less than ideal for your needs:
No running water – bring your own drinking water
Heated only on an as needed basis, so it takes a while to heat up the space – heater needs to be turned on several hours in advance on particularly cold days
No plates, cups, bowls or utensils – bring your own
No cooking facilities
Because there is no plumbing, we have a rustric, composting toilet. It consists of an in-house/outhouse with sawdust to sprinkle in toilet after each use. Sanitizer is available for hand cleaning.
Parking & roadway safety
See the RMCC parking page and map for details. Please park in the pullout area across Rte 132 from RMCC —perpendicular to the road. There is additional parking in the pullout area on the same side as RMCC toward Tucker Hill Road. Please do not park near the driveway or mailbox on left end of that parking area. Several cars may also park in the RMCC driveway.
Roadway safety & traffic cone
If you plan on parking on the roadside please place the orange traffic cone (stored in the entryway closet) in the middle of the road at the crest of the road between RMCC and Ulman Rd. before people start arriving. This is so traffic coming from that direction knows to slow down. Return it to the entryway when your event is over. Additional instructions are posted on bureau inside the door.
Instructions for Games
The badminton rackets and birdies are in a black case by the extra tables in the kitchen. The bean bag tables and bags are there as well, and layout nicely between the badminton and the north side of the building. Horseshoes are hanging on a hook on the east outside of the building. The darts are in the tall stand up bureau on the south wall of the main room. There are 2 warning signs that folks should hang in the dart doorway when anyone is playing; the signs warning folks not to walk in during dart throwing hang below the dart board.
